Hi,

I just received my JD but can not connect it to the WIFI with my HP computer. To see if it was an issue with the EZ-B I tried to connect it to my Mac Air and it connected. Does anyone know what the issue could be?

It may be some security software on the HP computer causing the connection issue however that is just a guess. Do you intend on using it in AP mode (direct connection) or can you use it in client mode (it connects to your home wifi)? Personally I would do the following; 1) Connect with the Mac Air (as we know this works) 2) Open your web browser and go to 192.168.1.1 3) It should present you with the configuration pages  4) Click on WiFi Client Mode on the left 5) You should get the configuration page for Client mode  6) Fill in the SSID (Your home wifi name) and security key (password) - Note, these are case sensitive. 7) Click connect 8) The EZ-B should reset and then announce that it is connected to the network 9) On the HP computer load up ARC 10) In the connection box in the top left of the screen click on the scan button  11) On the dialogue which pops up click start scan  12) It should now scan your network for EZ-B V4s. They will be listed when found. 13) Once it finds it, click on the IP under Found IPs then select, this will change the connection box for you 14) Back up in the connection box in the top left click on connect 15) The EZ-B should chime to indicate connection is established and ARC should report that it is connected.

@Rich... This is a really good tutorial.... It would be great if you could somehow host it or make it a permanent link... You might have to slightly modify it for the average user (because of the Mac reference)... Nevertheless it's a very easy to follow and understand how to....

@Rich Thanks! one other quick question (sorry I'm kind of new to this) how long does it take to charge the battery as i have left it plugged in for three hours with the robot off and it still says it has low battery

If using the EZ-Robot balance charger and power supply it should take around an hour an 15 minutes to charge. There was a report of another battery saying it's still charging. I had a similar issue however turning the robot on while it was charging made the green light go out (I haven't needed to charge it again yet). If you disconnect the charger and turn on the robot it should warn when the battery is low. If you have a multimeter you can test the voltage between the outside 2 pins of the balance plug (the part that connects to the charger), it should be a little above 8v if fully charged.

Thanks. if the battery doesn't work would you say that it is the battery balancer that doesn't work and i will need to get a new one. also just to check that the robot is plugged into the 2 cell plug. i just can't see why it wont work. ill leave it for an hour and 15 and see what happens.

My JD arrived 2 days ago and it had charge. I have assembled it and the EZ-B made the right noises when switched on. I have now unfortunately used up its power

What happens to the green light if you turn it on while it's on charge? If you can connect the EZ-B to ARC you can also get a voltage reading from that (if you have done the above configuration change). Provided you don't pull more than an amp while it's on you can turn it on while charging, it will just slow down the charging time. Personally, however do this at your own risk, I would turn it on, make the changes to the EZ-B configuration as above, connect ARC to the EZ-B, add the EZ-B V4 Info control which gives battery voltage, disconnect the charger and see what it reads. If it's above 8V while not doing anything it is charging OK.

Just a tip... Be careful about under-volting (not really a word but you get my meaning) a lipo battery... If you discharge them too much they die and can't come back to life... You probably have not done that yet, but just be aware of it for future reference... If the ezb4 complains it's battery is low, charge it asap.... I will leave it to Rich to help you further...

I am to the point of connecting to Wifi but I am having trouble! My computer has showed the ezb4 a few times & showed connected twice but showing limited. I cannot go to the screen showing client because it does not pick up that page! Do I need Microsoft Native Bluetooth Stack because I am not sure I have it? Also, the number is showing 192.168.1.1:23 but when I go to scan it shows 192.168.0.1. I am not educated in this type of stuff so I am pretty much lost! The tutorials don't explain what to do if something doesn't work right! Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

@michaelc ...The EZB4 uses wifi, so forget anything about Bluetooth for connecting to the ezb4... Once you get the EZB4 connected to your pc (even a Limited connection as you stated), open ARC and click on the silver flying saucer looking thingy in you first control (the connection control next to the scan tool). This should bring up the ezb4 webserver.... from here you can flip your ezb into client mode... Have you viewed the video in the Learn section here on how to connect the ezb4 to your PC?

You may want to try having any software firewall configured (ie an exception rule for ARC) or turned off. This is what was causing the problem for me. I still can't figure out why the IP scanning won't work (no EZ B is found), but I figured out what IP address the EZ B was on and added it manually.

Thanks Richard R & ftlum. Here is my thinking. My router is 192.168.0.1. The five connections show 192.168.1.1. I change these connections to my router but every time I go to another page & back to the connection page, the five connections are showing 192.168.1.1 again. My question is, can I take my cable directly to my computer & get JD to work? Bypass the router? I want to see JD work! I have waited a year to receive JD & I can't get him to work!

HAHA, Michael I love your energy and eagerness! HP seems to be doing something strange with their network driver which prevents connecting to EZ-B's. We are trying to nail down how to bypass the issue. The issue appears to be that HP driver wants all network attempts to be connected to the internet. And the EZ-B is not an internet connection, so it doesn't complete the connection. We are working on trying to contact HP to find out how to bypass their strange setting. In the meantime, I ask that you purchase a WiFi USB dongle from your local computer store. If you are in the USA, you can get one from Best Buy. All of our HP customers have been using USB WiFi modules with success. Also, please get the latest version of ARC. Once you have installed it, use the Diagnostic Report Control and paste it in this forum thread. Access the Diagnostic Report by... 1) Load ARC 2) Press Projects from the top menu 3) Press Add Control 4) From the General Tab, press the Diagnostic Report 5) Once the report loads, press the COPY TO CLIPBOARD button 6) Return to this forum and PASTE the contents of your clipboard into a message Do not worry, there is nothing in the report that exposes your computer. It will display all installed software and driver versions. We are using these reports to compile a case against HP to have them return our calls. Thanks!

@DJ Sures I am trying to over ride Searching DNS to force to 192.168.1.1 for EZ-B. I did this in the past, just trying to remember how I did it. C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc has the files that need to be changed. J

The EZ-B v4 has a built in battery protection which prevents it from being drained completely. When the battery saver kicks in, the EZ-B v4 will complain with a verbal message and shut down all I/O. This is because the LiPo batteries will be damaged if drained completely. Even though the battery saver feature can be disabled, it is not recommended. If you disabled the battery saver, the battery will be damaged and no longer hold it's charge. If you did not disable the battery saver and it's always been acting this way, the battery might be damaged from factory. We are able to detect a battery that has been completed drained. We are unsure if the battery is damaged or the charger is not working. Do you know if the charger is working? We can start with a replacement battery.

@Dj Sures, I don't think the charger is working. When the power cord is plugged into the mains power and the balancer charger there are no lights on. When plugged into the robot there is a very faint green light on which seems to be dimming slowly.

Richard it is a long answer. I would tell them and they can write up an how to do it. I am not the best at writing... lol This is only a work around solution for hp/compaq owners who have two nic's, one a wired connection and second one is a wifi nic, connection. DNS is getting confused when trying to find the EZ-B. And it times out. Says unable to connect. It requires that they disable the wired connection and the wifi connection. Maybe you could write it up? Also requires that they have or purchase a usb wifi for their hp/compaq personal computer OR use another pc or laptop to set the EZ-B in client mode. I have test this on my HP system and it worked. But I need another person who has an HP/Compaq to try the work around. J

I put in 192.168.0.1 on the first connection. I then hit the round button to go to client mode & my d-link comes up wanting to know my password. When I type in the password, it will not take it. I'm going to try resetting the password tomorrow. Maybe I'm using the wrong password.

@michaelc, You are entering the IP address of your router, not your EZ-B, which is why you are being prompted for a router password. I suggest you watch the tutorial videos in lessons 3 and 4 under "EZ-B v4 Robot Brain" in the Learn page to understand how to connect ARC to your EZ-B. Alan

Thanks for checking that @Michaelc I am running out of ideas, these HP computers are giving me a run for my money, anyone else got any other thoughts? If you need to get up and running quickly I would suggest either using Client mode or purchasing a USB WiFi dongle. There's an excellent step by step text based tutorial on the forums for connecting your EZ-B in client mode. It's written by @Rich: here Otherwise we have a video in the Learn section and I believe that @TechnoPro has a video as well. If you'd like to keep on troubleshooting AP (Adhoc) mode with your HP laptop I'll do my best to keep researching but I'm not sure if I can come up with things to try everyday, it may continue to be a work in progress. Edit: I forgot to suggest that you can use another WiFi device to setup the client mode connection if you'd like, just like @Rich suggested at the start of this thread. Then you can go back to using ARC with your HP laptop.

I gave you EZ-Robot a work around. HP is get confused on DNS search for the EZB. I have been networking PC's since the beginning of PC's. The Nic controller of HP and their software will not search a second nic wifi, if it is using hp drivers. Only HP can fix that. PERIOD. I tired everything that I know to make it work. I left you a message on your answering machine (EZ-Robot) to contact me. BUT you EZ-Robot INC would not call me. I use my HP each day to access the internet and use an USB wifi (2) to connect to my EZB's in AP mode. I have tested this every day since some time last week. But know one is will to listen to me. I keep here the same thing in this thread too. USE A USB BY OTHER COMPANY BESIDES HP. AND IT WORKS... I use an Netgear USB... It works. But before I can connect in AP mode. I have to disable the HP nic's both of them. Then connect to EZB via Netgear USB. It works. Then start ARC and do what every. Do you need me to make a video? I love my EZ-Robots. I have three work this way and I am working on a fourth one which I already tested and accessed this EZB in the AP mode. Also tested the other EZB V4 07F3 JD robot too and works fine. Thanks everyone for your help on the HP issue. I have tried two different Wifi USB's with no luck. Jeremie, if you could make that video or explain to me about turning off my Wifi on my computer, maybe I can get my Netgear Wifi USB working. Next, I am going to a different computer that will not be an HP! I see with all of the questions on calibrating servos that I have a lot to learn once I get JD working! One day I will succeed! Thanks J for your help so far! I'm sure I'm going to need your help in the near future! I looked at my Vista & there was too many popups happening plus downloading Windows 7 over Vista seemed like a real task so I went out & bought a Dell 3646. I hope this computer does the trick!

I apologize if you see these questions somewhere else. I have started two new discussions today & I can't find them anywhere! I am going to try here. JD came with two extra long servo wires & two bundle wire wraps. I put the servo wires on the Gripper wires because they were too short. Where are these wires supposed to go & which wires are supposed to be wrapped with these bundle wraps? Last night I tried to get JD to stand for the first time. This was JD's first movement & WOW, he was actually moving. He didn't stand because one of the wires disconnected. Tonight I tried to get JD to stand & his feet ended up in the air. No wires came loose but one wire was keeping an arm from moving. I know DJ has said that he will show us how to keep the servos from disconnecting. I am looking forward to seeing this tutorial & to seeing how the wires go to keep from tangling up. My last thought is how you people post video's on this forum. I do not have a computer camera. I have an iPhone & want to download to my computer so I can put it in this forum. Any help on these matters would be greatly appreciated.

@michaelc.... The tutorials are already here... Tutorials I advise you to complete them before going any further with JD... The extra servo wires are for JD's gripper servos... The wire wraps are to be used to tidy up Jd's wiring..... If you have a youtube account you will be able to post videos here...

This is amazing. I have started 3 new discussions & threads & I have not seen them! When I pushed send it said sending. Anyway, here are my problems. Charged JD 5 1/2 hours yesterday & green light did not go out! Also, I have 90 degrees my servos, fine tuned them but JD is not working right! When I push Gorilla, the arms extend straight out but that is it! When I Wave & Think, the arms go back 90 degrees & JD falls backward! What are my problems? Thanks.

@michaelc, when creating a new thread you must select a thread type and category. Make sure there weren't any errors trying to make a new thread. The error message pops up at the top and you might not have seen it.

There aren't currently any problems with creating new threads.
